Symphony of Stories

We had a wonderful week celebrating the joy and magic of reading at St Andrews! 

Book of the Year Award

Students in Years 4-6 looked at the shortlisted books in the Early Childhood category. They were then asked to apply the same criteria that the actual judges used to select the shortlisted books to declare a winner. The classes decided upon Derek by Anne Donaldson

The winner selected by the Children’s book Council of Australia was The Emperor’s egg by Rae Tan. And the honour books were Derek by Anne Donaldson and The Thing about Christmas by Jo Dabrowski.

Scholastic Book Fair

During Book Week, students were able to buy books from the Scholastic Book Fair held in the meeting room in the library. As a result of this, over $800 was raised for library resources. Thank you to everyone who helped with this.

Zoom Trivia

In conjunction with Science Week, the Library ran some ZOOM Trivia sessions for Primary students at lunchtime. These were hosted by CSIRO and covered such topics as amphibians, STEM in the Olympics and extreme environments.

Book Week Dress-Up Parade

The week concluded with a Book Week Parade, where our Primary students brought their favourite book characters to life, enjoyed relaxing Reading Picnics, and were inspired by author Carol Vass, who shared her journey and passion for storytelling.

Thank you to our staff and teachers for sharing their favourite stories, and congratulations to Amy and Jasper for winning Best Costume, as well as to our colouring competition winners!
